Summer Home Learning A summer booklet for children to complete as home learning during the summer holiday. The summer booklet encourages children to record and rate the books that they have read during the summer, to look at the weather, to record what they have learnt, tried and enjoyed and to use their senses to think about the different things that they have experienced. There are two versions of the booklet - a colour version and a black and white version. My New Class A set of 15 activity worksheets for children to complete when they join their new class. These worksheets are aimed at Year 1 children. They can be used to assess what the children have learnt during the lesson or their prior knowledge. These Maths exit tickets can be used to assess Maths knowledge about number. Each ticket contains a Maths problem for the children to solve. The Maths problems include missing numbers in number sentences, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, place value, one more and one less. These exit tickets can be printed and laminated or displayed on the Interactive Whiteboard. Each child could solve the same problem or they could all have their own ticket - this method is useful for differentiating and assessing the Maths knowledge of specific children. Phonics Exit Tickets A set of 39 phonics exit tickets based on the Year 1 English curriculum. Exit tickets can be used at the end of a lesson to assess children’s knowledge and understanding. Read a Picture - Vocabulary - PowerPoint A set of ten pictures and accompanying sentences introducing new vocabulary. For each picture children have to identify a word within the sentences for example the word that describes the cakes or the word that tells you what the bird is doing. Once they have identified the word and talked about it’s meaning they then need to find other words that they could use instead for example they could replace large with huge, oversized. For the next activity children need to read a sentence and talk about what they think one of the words within the sentence means. This activity PowerPoint introduces children to new vocabulary and encourages them to use the picture and the whole sentence to discuss what they think words mean. For some children they will be able to read the sentences independently however for other children I will read the sentence to them or with them depending on their ability. This activity focuses on vocabulary and discussing word meaning and not on children’s reading ability. Read a Picture - Vocabulary Worksheets A set of 20 worksheets with ten different pictures. Each picture includes 2 worksheets focusing on vocabulary. For one activity children need to identify a word within the sentence for example the word that describes the size of the book and then find alternative words that could be used instead. For the second activity children need to think about what they think a word means using the picture and the whole sentence to support their thinking and are then given a picture to draw linked to that word for example draw something that is precious to you. Some children will be able to read the sentences independently however for some children I will either read the sentence with them or read the sentence to them depending on their ability as these worksheets focus on vocabulary and not reading ability. These worksheets can be used as part of guided reading sessions. Aimed at Key Stage 1 children.

HFW Flashcards A set of high frequency word flashcards covering the first 100 hfw. The words are split into ten colour coded groups with ten words in each set meaning that the class can focus on ten words at a time. Each card shows the high frequency word in different fonts. HFW Activity Cards A set of hfw activity cards to practise writing and spelling the first 100 high frequency words. The 100 words are split into ten colour coded groups with ten words in each group. Each word has an activity card for children to practise writing the word and an activity card for the children to practise spelling the word. Suitable for Early Years and Key Stage 1 children.

Planning a Story An English activity to help children to plan a story in a step by step manner. This activity breaks down story planning into small chunks and enables children to plan each stage of the story. The activity encourages lots of talk and children enjoy sharing their ideas about the story. The activity encourages children to think about and describe their character, the setting and the time of their story. Children then plan the problem, what happens first, then and next and then the solution and the ending. The activity gives children different ideas and demonstrates to children that not all stories need to be the same as we all have different ideas and suggestions. I often take several days to work through this activity and to build story plans with the children and find that rereading our story plans regularly helps children when they reach the writing stage. This activity could be used in Early Years to introduce story planning and oral retelling of a story to the children or in Key Stage 1 to support children with story planning and story writing. Writing a Story An English story writing activity to support children when writing a story. Children plan their story using a story plan. This activity then demonstrates to the children how to write each part of their story using the story plan. I use this activity over several days to support children to write their story and will often cover several parts in one lesson with mini plenaries in between reminding children what their writing needs. Children like the little girl who pops up to ask questions to improve the story. The activity could be used in Early Years for orally retelling a story or in Key Stage 1 for writing a story.

Phonics Word Maker A set of 40 word maker cards, 30 digraphs and trigraphs and 8 Phonics worksheets. These cards cover digraphs and trigraphs, they do not cover split digraphs. Children can pick either a word maker card or a digraph or trigraph and then see how many words they can make with the cards by placing the digraph or trigraph card onto the word maker card. There are also 8 Phonics worksheets that children can use alongside the word maker cards. The worksheets cover real and alien words, rhyme, sentence making, word meaning activities. Split Digraph Word Maker A set of 20 word maker cards, a sheet of vowel sounds and 10 Phonics worksheets. These cards cover split digraphs only. Children can pick either a word maker card or a sound card and then see how many split digraph words they can make with the cards by placing the sound card onto the word maker card. There are also 10 Phonics worksheets that children can use alongside the word maker cards. The worksheets cover real and alien words, rhyme, sentence making, word meaning, word sorting activities.
